Έναν αστικό μύθο που κυκλοφορούσε επί 30 χρόνια επιβεβαίωσε ένα ντοκιμαντέρ που αφορά την ταφή χιλιάδων παιχνιδιών και εξαρτημάτων της εταιρείας ATARI, στην έρημο του Νέο Μεξικό, το 1983.
Ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους αστικούς μύθους της δεκαετίας του ’80 ήταν ότι η εταιρεία Atari έθαψε στην έρημο του Νέου Μεξικού εκατομμύρια βιντεοπαιχνίδια.
Ο λόγος για το βιντεοπαιχνίδι E.T που βασίζεται στην πασίγνωστη ταινία του Steven Spielberg, τα δικαιώματα της οποίας πλήρωσε πολύ ακριβά το 1982 η Atari προκειμένου να κυκλοφορήσει το ομώνυμο παιχνίδι για την παιχνιδομηχανή Atari 2600.

Η ανασκαφή οργανώθηκε από τη Microsoft στα πλαίσια ενός ντοκιμαντέρ για την πορεία της εταιρείας καθώς και για την επιβεβαιώση η όχι των φημών ότι η εταιρεία έθαψε στην περιοχή Alamogodoro στο Νέο Μεξικό χιλιάδες απούλητα αντίτυπα του παιχνιδιού μαζί με άλλο εξοπλισμό.
